Tier 1, 2/3 Support (MTSS)

Information on how Open Parachute achieves MTSS

Updated over a year ago

Open Parachute’s curriculum is a Tier 1 & 2/3 preventative resource.

Every lesson in our curriculum from Pre-K to Grade 12 is labeled with its corresponding MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) tier. Tier labels can be found on the lesson cover:

What Does Tier 1 & Tier 2/3 Mean?

Tier 1:

Tier 1 lessons provide universal support for students, using a whole-classroom approach that integrates best practices.

These lessons are high-quality and evidence-based learning experiences designed for all students in any academic setting. These core lessons incorporate a variety of learning modalities, differentiation, and ongoing data collection.

Tier 2/3:

Tier 2 and 3 lessons provide a targeted approach for students who need more intentional support in a whole-group, small-group, or one-on-one setting.

These Tier 2/3 lessons will benefit students who struggle (academically, socially, emotionally, or behaviorally), are diverse learners, or need additional teacher support. Our lessons labeled as Tier 2/3 can be implemented in either a Tier 2 setting (whole-group or small group) or a Tier 3 setting (one-on-one setting). All lessons labeled Tier 2/3 are designed to be implemented in a Tier 2 setting but can be easily adapted to be implemented in a Tier 3 setting, simply by using the group activities as one-on-one activities instead. Teachers have the autonomy to implement our Tier 2/3 lessons to meet students' diverse and unique needs.
