Explore Open Parachute with this easy-to-start guide

Updated over 11 months ago

Lesson roadmaps are intended as an introductory resource to help teachers quickly get started with Open Parachute Lessons.

Lesson Roadmaps provide simple paths through various lesson and content recommendations that gently introduce the content by grade level. They are intended to help you explore the Open Parachute platform and lessons based on your comfort level, themes, topics, and needs.

Once you've downloaded the Lesson Roadmap PDF for your grade level, each lesson is hyperlinked for your convenience to help you quickly and easily access the lesson on our platform.

Please note - You must be logged in to your Open Parachute account in order to access any lessons.

Student Introduction

We recommend you begin with the introductory lessons to build comfort with the content and your students. These lessons will help you become familiar with the program and establish trust within the class.

Path 1: Introduce Well-being

These short lessons are intended to build community trust and well-being skills with your students. The Brain Breaks and Skill-Builder lessons recommended in this path are a great introduction to this type of lesson, though you're welcome to choose other lessons within these sections to complete with your class.

The goal of this path is to allow you to feel comfortable with the content, engaging the students to build trust in themselves, you and each other.

Path 2: Themes

This path allows you to explore lessons categorized into unique themes by grade level.

This content requires a higher comfort-level with the content than Path 1. If this path feels overwhelming, you can always circle back to Path 1 and spend some more time familiarizing yourself with this content.

At this stage, we recommend following one of these options:

  • Explore various lessons within one single theme using the Theme filter (below), or

  • Sample various themes using the recommendations in the Roadmap

If you choose to explore the other lessons in a single theme, you can select the Theme filter from the grade-level menu in the Lesson Library:

Please note - These lessons are also meant to ease you into the content and some of the lessons may deal with heavier content. We recommend previewing all lesson content before running the lesson with your class.

Path 3: Topics & Needs

This path allows you to explore lessons based on specific needs you might observe in your classroom or within groups of students. The topics provided in the Lesson Roadmaps are a small sample of many different topics you can search and explore within the Lesson Library.

Learn more about searching in the Lesson Library in our Help Article: Hot Tips for Searching

If you already have a topic area in mind that you'd like to cover with your students, use our Search function to generate a list of lessons within that topic area:

If you prefer to explore a range of various topics, you can use the recommendations within the Lesson Roadmap to get started and then explore other content later on.
